class 43 diesel hydraulic loco

Hydraulic Heaven. PJS,0701

Hydraulic Heaven. PJS,0701
An undated scene taken at Worcester Shrub Hill during the zenith of the W.R. diesel hydraulic period. Newton Abbot based D862 'Viking' is resting between duties, the loco is wearing maroon livery with small yellow warning panel and 'coach style' B.R. crests. with D862 is D7020 in the attractive two tone green livery, what a superb colour picture this would have made.
Also of note is the unofficial depot entrance, a pair of steps against the wall. This was used by railwaymen who had been 'dropped off' a train rounding the curve to Foregate Street and would have saved the walk round into the depot.
D862 was a North British built class 43 Warship. The loco was built 13/03/1962 and withdrawn 03/10/1971, it was cut at Swindon 12/05/1972.
D7020 was a Beyer-Peacock class 35 Hymek. It was put into traffic 08/02/1962, withdrawn 01/01/1972 and cut at Swindon in August of that year.
Peter Shoesmith. 35mm negative
(The picture could have been taken anytime during the early 1960's but Peter had a number of pictures in the Worcester area taken around 1965)
